From 23 June to 27 June, Prof. Xia Yining, Chief Scientist of the Agricultural Product Fresh-Keeping and Logistics Innovation Team at the Institute of Food Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IFST-CAAS), went to Georgia as special expert to advance implementation of FAO One Country One Product (OCOP) and attend the launch ceremony of Georgia’s OCOP initiative.

Xia Yining conducted field investigations at the National Wine Agency of Georgia, the Agricultural Science Research Center, and Technical University of Georgia. Centering on green preservation, storage and transportation of grapes, eco-friendly wine processing technologies, as well as market operation and brand development, Prof. Xia held in-depth exchanges with local institutions. Drawing on practical experience in brand building and market promotion from China’s wine-producing regions and the technical expertise accumulated by his team, Prof. Xia shared a full-process solution covering pre-cooling at origin, ice-temperature fresh-keeping and precise modified atmosphere control. He also engaged in thorough discussions with local specialists on balancing the intangible cultural heritage of Georgia’s traditional clay amphora winemaking with higher standardized production standards.

At the Georgia Launching Ceremony and Training Workshop of OCOP Program held on the 26th June, Prof. Xia Yining delivered a special presentation titled An Overview of China’s Wine Industry, and held discussions with participating delegates on topics including Georgia’s wine exports to China and viable domestic marketing strategies for Georgian wine.

Moving forward, experts from the IFST will further strengthen coordination and cooperation with the FAO Representative Office in Georgia and relevant Georgian authorities, and fully implement the Georgia Action Plan for the One Country One Product(2025–2027) and share proven Chinese practices to support high-quality, sustainable development of Georgia’s grape and wine industries.
