On May 24th, 2024 International Symposium on Cereal Science and Technology, hosted by the Institute of Food Science and Technology of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IFST-CAAS), was successfully held in Beijing. More than 50 experts, scholars, and industry representatives at home and abroad joined the symposium on site, and 11,000 participants attended the meeting online. The symposium was chaired by Prof. Guo Boli, the Chief Scientist of the Cereal Processing and Quality Control Innovation Team of CAAS.

Kang Wei, the Secretary of the Party Committee of CAAS, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. He pointed out that scientific innovation is the key to reduce the grain losses, and enhance the quality and efficiency. In recent years, the Cereal Processing and Quality Control Innovation Team has focused on national strategic needs and taken on the responsibility of tackling key core technologies in cereal industry. They have made breakthrough advancements in areas such as the comprehensive utilization of saline-alkali wheat, moderate processing of cereals, and extending the shelf life of flour products. The successful convening of this conference provides an excellent opportunity for experts from all of the world to engage in pragmatic cooperation on food security and collectively discuss, plan, and promote the high-quality development of the global cereal industry chain.

16 experts from Academy of National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, China Agricultural University, Jiangnan University, Beijing Technology and Business University, Tianjin University of Science and Technology, Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, Technical University of Munich, University of Nottingham, Monash University, Jeju National University, Sejong University, and Wuxi Bruker Commercial Co., Ltd were invited to give lectures on the symposium. These experts deeply explored the latest research and applications in cereal nutrition and health, flavor, quality improvement, appropriate processing, and the role of digital and intelligent technologies in cereal processing. Multidimensional communication and sharing of innovative solutions for saving grain and reducing losses were carried out. Broad consensus was reached on strengthening integration of industry and education, as well as collaboration between science and business, thereby jointly promoting the integrated and beneficial development of international education, science, technology, and talent resources.

Since its inception in 2016, the International symposium on Cereal Science and Technology has been successfully held for seven consecutive sessions, dedicated to gathering global intellectual power in the field, exchanging cutting-edge research developments, addressing prominent industry issues, and providing scientific theoretical references and practical technology guides for accelerating the ecology reconstruction of the cereal food and promoting global progress and development in cereal science and technology.
