    On January 12th, 2013, the Launch Meeting for the “Research and Demonstration Project of Technologies and Equipment for Post-slaughter Loss Reduction and Grading of Livestock and Poultry” as a Dedicated Research Project for Public-good Industry (Agriculture) presided over by Dr. Zhang Dequan was held in Beijing. Over 80 participants attended this meeting, including Director of MOF Division of Education, Science and Culture Li Wenjin, Director General of MOA Agro-Products Processing Bureau Zhang Tianzuo, Director of the Division of S&T Education Zhang Zhenhua, Consultant of Agro-products Processing Bureau Jiang Qian, Director General of CAAS S&T Management Bureau Wang Xiaohu, Director of the CAAS Institute of Agro-Products Processing Science and Technology Dai Xiaofeng and the leaders of project management departments, in-charge personnel of the various subjects and team members. This meeting was presided over by Deputy Director General Wang Qiang.
 
    Dr. Dai Xiaofeng pointed out that the agro-products processing industry has become one of the fundamental, strategic and supporting pillars for national economy and the following 30 years will be a period of strategic opportunities and rapid development of this industry. People in this industry shoulder the responsibility to fulfill the hopes of the country and they can determine the future and fate of this industry. He stressed that we should take the research project establishment for public-interest industry (agriculture) as a great opportunity, target at the key issues which must be solved, jointly make breakthroughs and develop a group of advanced, practical, economic and fit-for-purpose technical equipment to support industry development.
 
    Dr. Zhang Dequan, as the chief scientist for the Project, provided a detailed presentation on the project establishment basis, overall objectives, research objectives and contents of research. Also, 14 in-charge professors for research subjects and subunits also provided detailed presentations on the tasks they have undertaken.
